Love Letter Examples, by the Letter You Need to Write
An example is not a script. Read the shape of it — the order, the size of the sentences, the one detail doing the work — and then write your version with your own Tuesday in it. Below are short examples for the situations people actually search for.
Short love letter, for someone you see every day
'You left the light on for me again and I noticed. I do not say it enough: coming home is the best part of my day, and it has been for a while. I am glad it is you I get to be ordinary with.'
Notice the size: four sentences, one habit, one admission, one closing. Short letters do not need a reason; they need a detail.
Deep or emotional love letter, for a hard year
'I want to write down what this year was, before it turns into the version we tell other people. You were the one holding the middle of it together while I panicked about the edges, and I have not thanked you properly. So: thank you. I would do all of it again with you.'
The technique here is scope. Name the year, name your own failure, name what they did — in that order, because it puts them last and largest.
Funny or cute love letter, for someone who hates sentiment
'I have written you a love letter, which I know you will find humiliating. You are the only person I would do this for, which is itself the point. Also you left your mug in the bathroom again. I love you. Please stop.'
Comedy and sincerity can share a letter. The joke gives them somewhere to look while they read the sincere line.
For him, for her, and across the distance
For him: lead with the thing he does rather than the way he makes you feel. 'You explain things to me properly, even when I ask twice.' Then say what it means, once.
For her: lead with something she would not expect you to remember. A throwaway comment from months ago is stronger evidence than a compliment.
Across the distance: spend the letter on their day, and end with one concrete thing you will do together. Distance letters that talk only about missing each other get heavy; distance letters with a plan stay light.
Using an example without sounding like one
Change one noun in every sentence. If the example says 'coffee', put your actual order in; if it says 'Tuesday', put your actual day in.
Cut the sentences you would not say out loud. What is left is your letter, even if it came from a page like this one.
Love letter example questions
Can I use these love letter examples directly?
Use the structure, not the sentences. An example is there to show the shape — a detail, an admission, a closing — and swapping your own specifics in is what turns it into a letter instead of a copy.
What if my letter does not sound like the example?
That is usually a good sign. The examples are deliberately plain, so that moving away from them means moving toward your own voice.
How long should a love letter be?
Long enough to say one true thing and stop. Four sentences is a letter; three pages is usually an argument with yourself.
Do I need to include a poem or a quote?
No. If you do, two lines at most and a sentence explaining why they made you think of the person.
